Vol. 82 No. 11

Employment Premium Bill, 1975: Fifth Stage.

Question proposed: "That the Bill do now pass."

I just want to put one query to the Minister which I had intended to put to him on section 2. I forgot about it and I think it is relevant now. This is, in effect, a subsidy to industry, and I wonder has the Minister considered the possibility that we may be in breach of the rules of the EEC. I am not saying we are in breach of the rules of the EEC and that he should necessarily thereby consider abandoning the scheme, but it is a matter that ought to be considered as to whether we are in breach of the EEC rules with regard to the subsidisation of industry.

Mr. O'Leary

We understand we are not in breach of any provision, but the Senator is wise to mention that.

Question put and agreed to.
