Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 23 Jun 1976

Vol. 84 No. 5

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take Nos. 1, 2 and 3 in that order.

I should like to ask a question on Senator Robinson's motion. Before we move to the summer recess, I should like to refer to motion No. 46 on the Order Paper, in the names of Senator Horgan and myself:

That Seanad Éireann notes the proceedings of the Fourth meeting of UNCTAD (United Nations Conference on Trade and Development) at Nairobi and the position taken by the Irish Delegation in particular.

The position was put forward by Holland——

An Leas-Chathaoirleach

The Senator may not go into detail.

These are not the details. There is some confusion in my mind as to what our attitude was in regard to the appropriate technological structures for the Third World. There was disparity between the position taken by this country, by Holland, and by the European Community.

If we wanted to be cynical about motions we should withdraw them if not taken by the summer recess.

I should like to ask the Leader of the House a question. It is not one that he might necessarily be prepared to answer today but perhaps he could find out for us. I am interested in No. 8 which has been on the Order Paper for a long time now —The Protection of Young Persons Employment Bill, 1974, which is at the Report Stage. We had extensive debates on this over 12 months ago. There are a number of amendments down for Report. It has disappeared without trace within the last 12 months or so. It is obviously an important Bill which one would like to see going through and perhaps between now and the next time we meet the Leader of the House might find out are we ever going to see it again.

I will have inquiries made.
