Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 30 Mar 1977

Vol. 86 No. 8

Order of Business.

There is a supplementary Order Paper with an item, the Intoxicating Liquor Bill, 1977, numbered al. It is proposed to take that first, then to take Nos. 1 and 2. It might assist the Seanad if I were to pre-empt the queries of some Senators who apparently are not here today by saying that the intention is to take No. 4, subject to the Minister for Health being available, on the first sitting day after Easter.

To get rid of it, I hope.

Where are yesterday's heroes?

We had some doubts about taking the Committee Stage of the Unfair Dismissals Bill today. I understand that our amendments and some Government amendments are being typed at the moment and they may be ready before the end of the debate on the Protection of Employment Bill. Rather than take us back next Tuesday, which would be entailed in adjourning the Committee Stage of the Unfair Dismissals Bill, if the amendments are ready before the end of the Second Stage debate on the Protection of Employment Bill I would go along with taking the Committee Stage of the Unfair Dismissals Bill.

It is anticipated that the amendments will be available for distribution about 3 o'clock.

If by any chance they are not available we can have another look at it but, on the basis that they will be available, we will go on the order suggested.

The alternative is bringing us back next Tuesday.

Order of Business agreed to.
