Vol. 92 No. 16

Bovine Diseases (Levies) Bill, 1979: Fifth Stage.

Question proposed: "That the Bill do now pass."

I was approached by a number of people in the dairy industry about section 4. The work of the executive staff in the industry has been increased because of all the levies, the quality tests, quality bonuses and so on. The 28-day period provided for in the section should be extended by at least two or three days to give more time to the staff of the dairy industry to furnish true and correct returns to the Minister.

We have already extended the period from 14 days to 28 days to comply with computer requirements and I understand from discussions we have had with the people involved that 28 days is adequate.

I was also approached by the same people who approached the Minister and they are looking for an extension of two or three days. If the returns are not furnished within 28 days, I am sure the Department will allow a few extra days.

We will not bother them for a day or two.

Question put and agreed to.
