Before I call on the next speaker, Senator Barnes gave notice on the Order of Business today that she wished to raise on the Adjournment the following matter:
The serious situation that has arisen over the transfer of jurisdiction of family law cases.
The Senator was not aware that notice should have been given by 3 p.m. yesterday. In my discretion, I can accept, in exceptional circumstances, shorter notice which I have done. Shorter notice, however, has serious practical difficulties for the Minister involved.
In all the circumstances I have decided that the matter is suitable for the Adjournment and that it be taken at 6 p.m., or when the business concludes, whichever is the later.
