Vol. 101 No. 1

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Brendan Ryan that on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today he proposes to raise the following matter:

The proposed substantial fee increases in VEC colleges.

I regard the matter as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment and it will be taken from 8 p.m. to 8.30 p.m., or earlier if the Business ordered is concluded.

I should like to give notice also that I want to raise on the Adjournment——

Standing Orders rule against the Senator. We must have notice.

I want to give notice.

We will take the notice in writing from the Senator. I have already refused another Member and there is no point in the Senator following this line.

It is a very important matter.

I accept that and I am glad I do not know what it is, but at the same time I cannot accept it.

The facility of being able to raise a matter of urgent public importance has existed for a long time.

If the Senator wishes a change he should raise it at the Committee on Procedure and Privileges.

I am anxious to raise the question of the instantaneous deaths of 20 animals on a farm in Tipperary from hydrogen sulphide gas poisoning.

This is out of order.

I wanted to raise this and to alert the farming community, and the public, to that problem which exists on many farms.

The Senator will have to resume his seat.
