Seanad Éireann debate -
Tuesday, 31 Jan 1984

Vol. 102 No. 12

Death of Deputy. - Business of Seanad.

On item No. 2, I do not see either the proposer or seconder here. Would anybody else care to move the motion?

Clearly the position as Senators know is that it is the turn of the Independent Group to move a motion in Private Members' Time. Last Thursday a motion was put down by two Independent Senators. On Friday an amendment was put down in the name of myself and the Deputy Leader of the Government side of the House. I certainly received no further information from the mover or seconder and, as Senators know, at the commencement of business the matter was ordered for 7 o'clock this evening.

Would the Leader of the House say what the intentions are? Do we adjourn until 10.30 tomorrow morning?

At six o'clock I indicated that we would resume the CIE debate tomorrow after the passage of the Housing Bill. It would be unfair to Senators who were in the House or who had received word of that intimation since 6 p.m. if we were to do anything else but adjourn now and resume at 10.30 in the morning to take tomorrow's business.

Is that agreed?

What business will we have tomorrow morning? Do we take up this motion tomorrow?

My intention would be the same intention that I announced today at 2.30 p.m., that at the commencement of business tomorrow we would take the Housing Bill, which is a Bill of limited scope. After that we would resume the CIE motion. After that it had been the intention to take the second half of this Private Members' Motion, but that will not exist.

Is it agreed?

Agreed.

The Seanad adjourned at 7.08 p.m. until 10.30 a.m. on Wednesday, 1 February 1984.
