Request Under Standing Order 29.

I wish to move the Adjournment of the Seanad under Standing Order 29 to discuss a specific and important matter of public interest, which requires urgent consideration, that is the continuing threat to the public finances resulting from the attempted large scale sale of Government stock on the Stock Exchange.

I have given careful consideration to the matter raised by Senator Brendan Ryan. I do not consider it to be a matter contemplated by Standing Order 29. I regret, therefore, I have to rule it out of order.

I find it astonishing that an attempt to subvert the interests of the finances of the State by a tiny, unpatriotic and ruthless minority cannot be discussed within the Houses of the Oireachtas. It demonstrates our irrelevance and our impotence in the face of people who are powerful, ruthless and interested in nothing except their own interests and their own welfare, that they have become a——

I do not think the Senator can dispute my ruling. I will discuss it with him.
