Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 13 Mar 1985

Vol. 107 No. 9

Request under Standing Order 29.

I have had notice from Senator Patrick Durcan regarding a motion which he wishes to move under Standing Order 29. I now call on Senator Durcan.

I would like to move under Standing Order 29 a motion for the adjournment of the Seanad on a specific and important matter of public interest requiring urgent consideration, the matter being:

The widespread disquiet in west Mayo and on the western seaboard arising from the recent outrages, particularly of last weekend, committed against the elderly, which suggests inadequacies in existing rural policing methods.

I have decided that the motion is one covered by the Standing Order and I ask the Senators who support this request to rise in their places.

As more than five Senators have risen the debate on the motion will take place at 6.30 p.m. or at the conclusion of the business ordered, whichever is the earlier.
