Vol. 108 No. 8

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take items Nos. 1 and 2. Because of the importance of Government legislation we have agreed that there will be no Private Members' Business this evening. Items No. 1 and 2 will be taken up to 8 p.m.

An Leas-Chathaoirleach

Is there a break?

Agreement was reached that there was no necessity for a break, but if there is agreement otherwise, I would be prepared to facilitate the House.

We were told last week and for some weeks past that the Taoiseach was very anxious to address himself to the National Archives Bill, 1985, that it is a Bill in which he has a particular interest. The Minister of State at the Department of the Taoiseach with responsibility for Arts and Culture, Deputy Nealon, is present and we have no objection to that.

An Leas-Chathaoirleach

I do not think that is relevant to the Order of Business.

On the Order of Business, we expected that the Taoiseach would be here today to discuss this Bill.

Just to reassure Senator Lanigan, the Taoiseach will be here.

I wonder if the Deputy Leader of the House will tell us when we will get the Land Tax Bill in this House?

I can assure Senator Ellis that the headings of the Land Tax Bill are being prepared. I am not sure in which House it will be introduced. I can assure him, reviewing my comments, of last week, that the Land Tax Bill will be before us shortly. I am sure he will welcome that news.

May I ask the Deputy Leader has there been any progress on the Housing (Homeless Persons) Bill, 1985 and is there any indication as to which House it will be introduced in?

Yes, my assurance is repeated for Senator Ryan. Tremendous progress has been made on the Housing (Homeless Persons) Bill, 1985. The Government's Bill has been almost completed and there is an anxiety on the part of all to have it here as quickly as possible. If that does not happen we will agree to facilitate the Senator with some more time, at some future date to be agreed, to take his Bill and conclude the Second Stage.

Order of Business agreed to.
