Vol. 109 No. 4

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take Nos. 1 and 2, and Motion No. 3 from 6.30 p.m. 8 p.m.

On the Order of Business, when is it intended to take the second report of the Joint Committee on Commercial State-Sponsored Bodies on Irish Shipping Limited? It is essential that this matter come before the House as soon as possible. The liquidation of Irish Shipping Limited was a major event in the history of this country and it has had serious repercussions not alone here but abroad. A number of so-called commercial reasons were put forward by the Government when they suggested that this company should be put into liquidation, but now it appears that the liquidation will cost a lot more than would have kept this company going over the next number of years.

I am afraid we cannot have a discussion on the substance of the motion.

It is essential that this motion be brought before the House to give us an opportunity to discuss the very serious implications of this hasty liquidation.

Has the Acting Leader of the House any information as to when the long promised Government housing Bill will be published? It seems to be becoming a longer and longer saga. If it takes that long to reform a few small clauses of our housing legislation, it will be the end of the century before any major social legislation is published.

I have no information before me as to when the housing Bill will be circulated but I understand it will be quite soon. We shall have an opportunity of raising Senator Lanigan's point of view with Senator Dooge next week, but it is not proposed to order it for this week.

Order of Business agreed to.

Are we adjourning for tea?

It is matter for the House to decide. Shall we adjourn from 5.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m.?

Agreed.
