Vol. 111 No. 5

Business of Seanad.

An Leas-Chathaoirleach

I have notice from Senator Jack Fitzsimons that on the motion for the Adjournment of the House to-day he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to ensure that in the reconstruction housing grant scheme, in bona fide situations, nothing in the scheme will preclude applicants from carrying out the works, or parts of the works themselves, without the full services of a building contractor.

I also received notice from Senator John Ellis of the following matter:

The delay by the Department of Health in the provision of an extension to the Manorhamilton Hospital.

I also received notice from Senator Patrick Durcan of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to indicate his plans for the introduction of a full and proper system of integrated nursing in the psychiatric nursing service.

I also received notice from Senator John Browne of the following matter:

The proposed closure of St. Dympna's Hospital, Carlow.

I also received notice from Senator Jimmy Deenihan of the following matter:

The urgent need for the Minister of Education to sanction proposals for the extension of Coolard National School, Listowel, County Kerry.

I also received notice from Senator Donie Cassidy of the following matter:

The urgent need for the Minister for Communications to issue a direction to Bord Telecom under the Postal and Telecommunications Services Act, 1983, in respect of maintaining an emergency call service, in order to allay public anxiety with recent breakdowns in this vital service.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Fitzsimons, Ellis, Durcan, Browne and Deenihan as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I regret I have to rule that that matter raised by Senator Cassidy is not suitable for discussion on the Adjournment on the ground of lack of ministerial responsibility. I have selected Senator Fitzsimons's motion for today's Adjournment and it will be taken at 8 p.m. or earlier if the business ordered is concluded. Senators Ellis, Durcan, Browne and Deenihan may give notice for another day of the matters they wish to raise.
