Vol. 111 No. 17

Order of Business.

It is proposed to order Nos: 1, 2 and 3. As Senators are aware, it is necessary that No. 1 should be law before the end of this month. Accordingly, the hope is that Second Stage would be completed today. This would allow for Committee Stage to be commenced at the beginning of business tomorrow morning. I would suggest that we consider at 5.30 p.m. whether or not to rise from 5.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. in the light of the progress of the debate on Second Stage of No. 1. Business will be interrupted to take No. 3 either at 5.30 p.m. or 6.30 p.m. as the case may be.

If it will facilitate the House and the passage of the Social Welfare Bill, if we could get that hour and a half when we come back, we would let it go at that way.

It is a generous offer on behalf of the Labour group and this could be taken into account. I will meet with representatives of the other parties at 5 o'clock and we will make a recommendation to the House at 5.30 p.m.

Order of Business agreed to.
