Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 16 Apr 1986

Vol. 112 No. 1

Request under Standing Order 29.

I have notice from Senator Brendan Ryan regarding a motion which he wishes to move under Standing Order 29. I now call on Senator Ryan.

I wish to move a motion for the Adjournment of the Seanad on a specific and urgent matter of public importance requiring urgent consideration: the immediate need for the Government to take action at diplomatic level and through the United Nations to help allay the threat to world peace resulting from the US bombing of Libya.

I have decided that the motion is one covered by the Standing Order and I ask the Senators who support the request to rise in their places.

Senators B. Ryan, Ross, M. Higgins, Ferris and Robb rose in their places.

On a point of order can I ask, in the event of this now being carried——

I have given my ruling.

But may I ask a question on a point of information?

Wait until I finish this and then I will let you ask the question, Senator.

The debate on the motion will take place at 6.30 p.m. or at the conclusion of the business ordered, whichever is the earlier, and must conclude at 8 p.m.
