Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 11 Jun 1986

Vol. 113 No. 5

Business of Seanad.

It is proposed to sit at 10 a.m. on Thursday. The House will be taking a report from the Committee on Procedure and Privileges first — an agreed report — and then we will be taking the Urban Renewal Bill, 1986, Garda Síochána (Complaints) Bill, 1985, The Bilateral Aid motion and the Control of Clinical Trials Bill, 1986 in that order depending on the time available. The Urban Renewal Bill and the Garda Síochána (Complaints) Bill will take most of the legislative hours available to us. I cannot envisage us going much further than those two Bills. We are putting in the other few in case everything goes great because we have a lot of legislation to deal with and I should order them in case we reach them. That is the order in which they will appear on tomorrow morning's paper, and the day will prove whether we can finish it or not.

Could I ask the Deputy Leader of the House if tomorrow morning we could continue with the Committee Stage of this Bill and that we deal with this Bill tomorrow morning and if tomorrow we cannot finish it we go onto it on next Tuesday rather than bringing in another piece of legislation and half dealing with it and then continuing on and half dealing with another piece of legislation? If this legislation needs to be got through can we not come in tomorrow morning and continue with this Bill and, having disposed of it, attack another piece of legislation? It is ludicrous the way business is being ordered.

Could we not continue with this Bill tomorrow?

I am in total agreement. We will take it after the Procedure and Privileges Report. We will take the Committee Stage in the morning and the Report Stage will be on Tuesday.

Report Stage not this week?

We will continue this in the morning after the Report of the Committee on Procedure and Privileges.

It is agreed to take the Report Stage on Tuesday?

It is not agreed to take Report Stage tomorrow.

We adjourned on that.

We will take Committee Stage tomorrow morning and on finishing business tomorrow then we will decide.

Senator Killilea had suggested Report Stage for next week.

The Seanad adjourned at 10.30 p.m. until 10 a.m. on Thursday, 12 June 1986.
