Vol. 116 No. 16

Order of Business.

It is intended that we take all Stages of the Export Promotion (Amendment) Bill, 1987, and items Nos. 2 and 3 — all Stages of item No. 3.

May I ask the Leader of the House if he has made any progress with the request of the House that the Taoiseach might come to address us on the matters which I referred to previously regarding the meeting of the Heads of State and the Council of Ministers meeting?

On the Order of Business, I would like to make a statement about item No. 34. The Leader of the House, Senator Murphy and I have reached an agreement that item No. 34, the Government's motion on extradition, will be withdrawn from the Order Paper. We will also withdraw our amendment. The reason for this is because we feel it is responsible at this delicate and difficult time in Anglo-Irish relations for ourselves and the Government not to interfere in the delicate talks and negotiations which may go on. I would like to congratulate Senator Lanigan——

The Senator may not make a speech on it.

I am just giving the reason for the withdrawal of a motion which has caused enormous trouble in this House. Senator Lanigan's responsible attitude, and by implication the Taoiseach's, to this matter will alleviate the problem which could have been very difficult for this House and for the Government.

On the matter raised by Senator Ferris, it is very doubtful if the Taoiseach will be able to come into the House as the Government are extremely busy at present. We have enough business to keep us here for quite some time.

On the Order of Business, questions were raised about the report on sexual violence and we will take that before the end of the session. It will probably be taken the week after next. Equally, there was much concern about item No. 10 on the Order Paper which is the report of the Joint Committee on Small Businesses. We will take that matter before the end of this session.

As Senator Ross has said, it has been agreed that item No. 34 be withdrawn from the Order Paper. I would not concur with him as to the reasons why it is being withdrawn.

Order of Business agreed to.
