Vol. 120 No. 13

Business of Seanad.

As it is now 5.30 p.m. in accordance with the order of the House, we should return to Item No. 4.

In the chaotic business of what passes for ordering the business in this House we are entitled to know when it is proposed to resume on this Bill.

If I remember correctly, Senator Murphy, it was decided on the Order of Business this morning that we would go back to the Housing Bill, 1988 — Item No. 4 on the Order Paper — at 5.30 p.m. and then we take Item No. 3. If those two items were cleared we would then resume on the Tobacco (Health Promotion and Protection) Bill, 1988.

I think there may have been some change in that arrangement. Perhaps the acting Leader could let us know. It is my understanding that we intend to go back to the Tobacco Bill when the Housing Bill is disposed of and that the Local Government (Multi-Storey Buildings) Bill will not be taken today.

My information is that we will take the Housing Bill now, followed by the Local Government (Multi-Storey Buildings) Bill and it may be tomorrow before we get back to the Tobacco Bill.

My information coincides with that of Senator O'Toole and it was not Senator O'Toole who told me.

I am somewhat confused. Senator Ryan told us, within the last hour, that we would be going back to the Tobacco Bill.

Perhaps the matter could be clarified by the Whips. It is now 5.30 p.m. and I have to go back to Item No. 4. Perhaps the Whips would get together on this. I was not told of any change.
