Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 7 Dec 1988

Vol. 121 No. 10

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Donie Cassidy that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to sanction the sewerage treatment works at Castlepollard as a matter of urgency due to the pollution dangers to Lough Dereveragh.

I also received notice from Senator John A. Murphy of the following matter:

The apparent lack of progress in making regulations under the Tobacco (Health Promotion and Protection) Act, 1988.

I also received notice from Senator John Connor of the following matter:

That in view of the disappointing outcome of recent attempts to change US immigration law, and the non-preference 5 Visa Programme, the need for the Minister for Foreign Affairs to provide funds to emigration reform and welfare groups working among and for the illegal Irish emigrant community in the United States of America.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Cassidy, Murphy and Connor as suitable for discussion. I have selected Senator Murphy's matter and it will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senators Cassidy and Connor may give notice for another day of the matters they wish to raise.
