Seanad Éireann debate -
Thursday, 19 Jan 1989

Vol. 121 No. 16

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Gerry Reynolds that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House to-day, he proposes to raise the following matter:—

The need for the Minister for Agriculture and Food to give a direction in writing to Teagasc under section 19 of the Agriculture (Research, Training and Advice) Act, 1988 in relation to the carrying on of the specified service of the agricultural research station in Ballinamore, County Leitrim which is due to close.

I also received notice from Senator Nuala Fennell of the following matter:—

The need for the Minister for Health to acknowledge that there is an obligation on the Government to give special financial assistance to haemophiliacs who have developed AIDS or are HIV positive, through blood transfusions given prior to 1986.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Reynolds and Fennell as suitable for discussion. I have selected Senator Reynolds matter and it will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senator Fennell may give notice for another day of the matter she wishes to raise. I should like to say, however, that a matter has been raised under Standing Order 29 which if allowed will mean the matter for the Adjournment I have just read out will be held over for the next sitting day.
