Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 26 Apr 1989

Vol. 122 No. 12

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Katharine Bulbulia that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, she proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Marine to respond with urgency to the recently announced decision of the North Europe-US Atlantic Conference to delete Waterford as a designated tariff arbitrary port and to put a 10 per cent increase in tariffs on Irish exporters; these decision to come into effect from 15 May 1989.

I also received notice from Senator David Norris of the following matter:

The need, especially in the light of recent tragic events, for the Minister for Justice to consider urgently the immediate opening of the facilities at Wheatfield Detention Centre.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Bulbulia and Norris as suitable for discussion. I have selected the matter raised by Senator Bulbulia and it will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senator Norris may give notice another day of the matter he wishes to raise.
