Vol. 122 No. 18

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take items Nos. 1 and 2. We will take all Stages of both Bills.

Today is the 50th anniversary of the founding of Shannon Airport. In sending our good wishes to all those who have made it such a success and our good wishes for the future of Shannon, may I ask the Leader of the House to arrange for an early debate on the report of the Fifth Joint Committee on Commercial State-Sponsored Bodies, that is the report on Aer Lingus and Aerlínte? It would be useful and appropriate if we could have a fairly full debate in the House on this very important report.

I ask the House to commend the historic and far-seeing decision of the Synod of the Church of Ireland — and I know the Cathaoirleach will be pleased — that the ordination of women is something they would find acceptable. It has tremendous implications. It makes ecclesiastical history and I hope ecumenism will be able to deal with it.

It is not on the Order of Business but I agree absolutely with you. I do not know whether I want to be a bishop or not.

I look forward to the day when we will be calling you Mother Honan.

I will not make any reply about women priests.

More enigmatic carryon.

As regards what Senator Manning said, I think we can arrange it for the week after next.

Thank you.

My family had very direct connections with the foundation of Shannon and I would like to put that on the record.

Order of Business agreed to.

There may be a slight delay. In this House the Order of Business often takes half an hour but today it took only five minutes. As the Taoiseach has to take the Order of Business in the Dáil he will not be here until 10.45 a.m.

Had we known you wished the Order of Business to continue for 20 minutes, a Chathaoirligh, we would have been only too happy to facilitate you.

Senator O'Toole, I never even look in your direction to encourage you.

Siting suspended at 10.35 a.m. and resumed at 10.45 a.m.
