Seanad Éireann debate -
Thursday, 30 Nov 1989

Vol. 123 No. 9

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator O'Toole that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matters:

The administration of the payment of cheques to substitute teachers in primary schools and the need to modify it to ensure that substitute teachers are paid promptly and regularly by arranging to have the cheque posted from the Department directly to the teacher.

I also received notice from Senator Costello of the following matters:

(1) The need for the Minister for the Environment to increase funding to enable Dublin Corporation to continue their programme of upgrading their housing stock.

(2) The need for the Minister for Education to fulfil her commitment to the development of a new school in north Clondalkin for the students of St. Kevin's Community College who are in temporary accommodation.

I also received notice from Senator McMahon of the following matter:

The urgent need for the Minister for Education to clarify the position regarding the acquisition of a site for the proposed construction of Jobstown Community College in west Tallaght.

I regard the matters raised by Senators O'Toole, Costello and McMahon as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected the matter raised by Senator O'Toole and it will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senators Costello and McMahon may give notice another day of the matters they wish to raise.
