Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 7 Mar 1990

Vol. 124 No. 5

Business of Seanad.

Tá fógra agam ón Seanadóir Pól Ó Foighil:

A cheistiú faoin chumhacht atá ag Oifig na nOibreacha Poiblí reimsí móra talún príomháideach timpeall na tíre uilig ach i gConamara go speisialta a ainmniú mar Cheantar Spéise Eolaíochta (Areas of Scientific Interest nó A.S.I.'s) gan stadas reachtúil nó dlíthúil Eorpach nó Náisiúnta a bheith ag Oifig na nOibreacha Poiblí é seo a dhéanamh.

I also received notice from Senator Dan Neville of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Justice to ensure that all the necessary preparations are put in order to prepare for the policing implications of open borders post-1992, and if he will make a statement on this matter.

I also received notice from Senator Joe Costello of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to increase funding to enable Dublin Corporation to continue its programme of upgrading its housing stock.

I also received notice from Senator Avril Doyle of the following matter:

The critical problems caused to all sectors, rural and urban, by recent storms on our coastline and inland, the lack of Government response and the totally inadequate emergency moneys offered by Brussels.

I also received notice from Senator Pat Upton of the following matter:

The discontinuation of grants for smokeless heating conversions by virtue of the Government's refusal to make any further special central area orders with particular reference to the Crumlin, Drimnagh and Bluebell areas of Dublin.

I also received notice from Senator Shane Ross of the following matter:

The unacceptable delay in the processing of investigations by the Garda Complaints Board and the need for the Minister to allocate additional staff immediately thereto.

I also received notice from Senator Carmencita Hederman of the following matter:

The need for the Minister to intervene in view of the concern with the section 4 motion tabled in Dublin County Council to achieve material contravention of the county development plan to permit development on the agriculturally zoned lands in the Liffey Valley at Cooldrinagh, County Dublin.

I also received notice from Senator Mary Jackman of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to appoint a temporary teacher to Killaloe national school to cover the period September 1990 to 1991.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Ó Foighil, Neville, Costello, Doyle, Upton, Ross and Jackman as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected the matter raised by Senator Ó Foighil and it will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senators Neville, Costello, Doyle, Upton, Ross and Jackman may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.

I regret I have to rule that the matter raised by Senator Hederman is not suitable for discussion on the ground of lack of ministerial responsibility.
