Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 9 May 1990

Vol. 124 No. 16

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Avril Doyle that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, she proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to ensure that the South Eastern Health Board appoints immediately a full-time consultant paediatrician to Wexford General Hospital as recommended by Comhairle na nOspidéal.

Tá fógra agam ón Seanadóir Pól Ó Foighil:

Go gcuirfear Teilifís na Gaeltachta ar bun láithreach agus go niarrtar ar Aire na Gaeltachta gníomhú láithreach i mbunú na seirbhíse seo.

I also received notice from Senator Joe Costello of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to urgently provide permanent accommodation and proper facilities for the pupils of St. Aidan's Christian Brothers Secondary School, Whitehall, Dublin 9 to replace the present totally inadequate prefabricated structure which has been in existence for over 20 years.

I also received notice from Senator David Norris of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to intervene personally to prevent a List 1 building, No. 20 North Great George's Street, from further deterioration and from being vandalised at the hands of the City of Dublin Vocational Educational Committee.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Doyle, Ó Foighil, Norris and Costello as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected the matter raised by Senator Doyle and it will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senators Ó Foighil and Costello may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.

I must point out that in the script I have here it refers to Senator Norris' matter as being suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. That is not correct. I regret I have to rule the matter raised by Senator Norris as not suitable for discussion on the Adjournment on the grounds of lack of ministerial responsibility. It was a typographical error that resulted in it being included.
