Vol. 124 No. 19

Personal Explanation by Member.

Before I call on the Leader of the House to announce the Order of Business, Senator Willie Farrell wishes to make a personal explanation to the House. I want to point out before he makes such an explanation to the House that once he makes that explanation I will allow no debate, comment or replies on the matter; I will consider it closed once the explanation is made.

Mr. Farrell

I regret that what I said yesterday was completely misconstrued and the record of the House will show I was specifically speaking about blackmail. The record of the House will show that when you read it. I am very sorry about the use of the word "pervert". I did not mean it in the context; indeed, I have looked up the meaning of the word since and I was correct in the context in which I used it. I did not mean it to affect anybody in this House and I was not referring to anybody in this House. If anybody felt that, I am really very sorry. I was referring to nobody in this House. I was referring totally to blackmailers and the record of the House will prove that. I am sorry it was misconstrued. I apologise to anybody who may have been offended by what I said. It was certainly not against anybody in this House.
