Seanad Éireann debate -

Vol. 125 No. 11

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Dan Neville that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Justice to alleviate the delays and the deteriorating position in the Land Registry, and to make a statement on the future efficiency of the registry.

I also received notice from Senator Joe Costello of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to increase funding to enable Dublin Corporation to continue their programme of upgrading their housing stock.

I also received notice from Senator Maurice Manning of the following matter:

The consistent failure of the Government to honour solemn promises made to the former workers of Irish Shipping.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Neville and Costello as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator Neville's matter and it will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senator Costello may give notice on another day of the matter he wishes to raise.

I regret I have to rule the matter raised by Senator Manning is not suitable for discussion as it is sub judice.

On a point of order, that same matter was raised by me with the last Cathaoirleach. The same question was given for the Adjournment two years ago. I do not think anything has changed in the meantime.

I am in the business of taking advice. I took the advice, and that is the advice.

He is now taking advice.

I have to ask the Senator to take advice and resume her seat.

Could I intervene for one moment? I was driving into the House this morning. The professional golf championship is on at Portmarnock this morning. I was very disappointed to note in the interview that ladies are not allowed to become even associate members of Portmarnock——

Where has the Senator been all these years?

I do not doubt that this is a matter of extreme importance for you, but I am calling on Senator Seán Fallon, Leader of the House.
