Thursday, 7 Mar 1991

Vol. 127 No. 17

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator O'Keeffe that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The present state of negotiations on the sale of Irish Steel and in the event of the dissipation of international interest the proposals he has for the long term viablility of the plant.

I also received notice from Senator Doyle of the following matter:

The urgent need for a paediatric unit at Wexford General Hospital.

I also received notice from Senator Mary Jackman of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Agriculture and Food to outline the strategy of future funding arrangements for integrated rural development, in particular the Slievefelim pilot programme in the Tipperary-Limerick area.

I also received notice from Senator Ross of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Marine to hold a public inquiry into any proposed infill and housing development at West Pier, Dún Laoghaire.

Tá fógra agam ón Seanadóir Pól Ó Foighil:

Le fiafraí den Aire Airgeadais agus de Aire na Gaeltachta cén fáth nach bhfuil Seomra na Gaeilge i dTeach Laighean ar fáil, do Theachtaí Dála agus Seanadóirí le feabhas a chur ar a gcuid Gaeilge.

I regard the matters raised by Senators O'Keeffe, Doyle, Jackman and Ross as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator O'Keeffe's matter and it will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senators Doyle, Jackman and Ross may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.

I regret that I have to rule the matter raised by Senator Ó Foighil is not suitable for discussion on the Adjournment on the grounds of lack of Ministerial responsibility.
