Vol. 129 No. 11

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator O'Toole that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The particular difficulties experienced by those two teacher schools which through the loss of a teacher are reduced to one teacher and to request that the enrolment figure for the retention of the second teacher be reduced from the current figure to 28 pupils and that such schools be categorised as disadvantaged.

I also received notice from Senator Hederman of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Finance to proceed with the cycleway around St. Stephen's Green as prepared by Dublin Corporation in 1980 and as discussed with the Office of Public Works at a meeting on 21 April 1983.

I also received notice from Senator Norris of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Foreign Affairs in the light of the report adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on the case of Mr. Raoul Wallenberg to express to the Soviet authorities in Moscow the wish of the Irish people that they should: (1) reopen the file of Mr. Raoul Wallenberg and his driver, Mr. Vilmos Lanofender, and to state unambiguously what has become of them; (2) to allow an international commission made up of historians and other experts access to all the relevant archives and (3), presuming that they are alive, to return them immediately to freedom and their families.

I also received notice from Senator Raftery of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Marine to take the necessary steps to make safe the pier and breakwater in Ballycotton harbour, which are in a very dangerous condition following the storms in 1990.

I regard the matter raised by Senators O'Toole, Hederman, Norris and Raftery as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator O'Toole's matter and it will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senators Hederman, Norris and Raftery may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
