Vol. 129 No. 12

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Manning that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to issue guidelines to local authorities to ensure the preservation of listed buildings in order to avoid any further destruction of such buildings.

I also received notice from Senator Norris of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Foreign Affairs, in the light of the report adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on the case of Mr. Raoul Wallenberg, to express to the Soviet authorities in Moscow the wish of the Irish people that they should; (1) reopen the file on Mr. Raoul Wallenberg and his driver, Mr. Vilmos Lanofender, and to state unambiguously what has become of them; (2) to allow an international commission made up of historians and other experts access to all the relevant archives; (3) and presuming that they are alive to return them immediately to freedom and their families.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Manning and Norris as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator Manning's matter and it will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senator Norris may give notice another day of the matter he wishes to raise.
