Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 23 Oct 1991

Vol. 130 No. 1

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Costello that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Justice to bring forward his proposals for remedying the miscarriage of justice in the Nicky Kelly case with a view to recommending a Presidential pardon.

I also received notice from Senator Norris of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Foreign Affairs in the light of the report adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe to ask the Soviet authorities in Moscow (1) to reopen the file on Mr. Raoul Wallenberg and his driver, and (2) to allow an international commission access to all the relevant archives.

I also received notice from Senator Neville of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to ensure that the extension to St. Mary's national school, Askeaton, is constructed in 1992.

I also received notice from Senator Cosgrave of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Justice to intervene in the present strike by court staff in view of the escalation of the strike, having regard to the consequences for the legal system and the hardship caused to the general public.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Costello, Norris, Neville and Cosgrave as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator Costello's matter and it will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senators Norris, Neville and Cosgrave may give notice another day of the matters they wish to raise.
