Thursday, 30 Jan 1992

Vol. 131 No. 3

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator O'Toole that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Labour to intervene in the current dispute at RTE.

I also received notice from Senator Norris of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to accede to the expressed wishes of Seanad Éireann and Dublin Corporation by making a substantial cash grant from lottery funding for the rebuilding of the Hirschfeld Centre in Dublin.

I also received notice from Senator McGowan of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Justice to examine the present overcrowding in prisons which is exacerbated by the number of persons imprisoned for minor motoring offences.

I also received notice from Senator Ross of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to make extra funding available through the Eastern Health Board for Wicklow community services.

I also received notice from Senator Ryan of the following matter:

The attempt by the Minister for Energy to end the practice whereby ESB customers can pay for appliances through their ESB bills.

I also received notice from Senator Dardis of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to make provision for the northern access road from the new motorway bypass to the town of Kilcullen to Kildare.

I regard the matters raised by Senators O'Toole, Norris, McGowan, Ross, Ryan and Dardis as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator O'Toole's matter and it will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senators Norris, McGowan, Ross, Ryan and Dardis may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
