The need for the Minister for Social Welfare to clarify, in the light of recent reports, the interpretation by his Department of the requirement that recipients of unemployment assistance and unemployment benefit be genuinely seeking work.
I also received notice from Senator Norris of the following matter:
The need for the Minister for the Environment to accede to the expressed wishes of Seanad Éireann and Dublin Corporation by making a substantial cash grant from lottery funding for the rebuilding of the Hirschfeld Centre in Dublin.
I also received notice from Senator Jackman of the following matter: The need for the Minister for Education to abandon his plans to apply means testing to the ESF maintenance grants.
I also received notice from Senator Costello of the following matter:
The need for the Minister for Education to rescind the decision to means test ESF grants for students enrolling in the regional technical colleges and Dublin Institute of Technology colleges.
I regard the matters raised by Senators Ross, Ryan, Norris, Jackman and Costello as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment.
