Thursday, 20 Feb 1992

Vol. 131 No. 9

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Norris that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to accede to the expressed wishes of Seanad Éireann and Dublin Corporation by making a substantial cash grant from lottery funding for the rebuilding of the Hirschfeld Centre in Dublin.

I also received notice from Senator Doyle of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to provide funds for the provision of permanent residential accommodation for the old and infirm of Wexford town and surrounding area.

I also received notice from Senator Haughey of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Marine to outline the current situation regarding the report by his Department's inspectors, and other reports into the collision between two ships near the entrance to Dublin port on 21 November.

I also received notice from Senator Costello of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to rescind the decision to means test ESF grants for students enrolling in the regional technical colleges and Dublin Institute of Technology colleges.

I also received notice from Senator Neville of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Justice to recognise and deal with the urban deprivation and absence of opportunity for life which is contributing to the high levels of urban crime in sections of our cities and towns.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Norris, Doyle, Haughey, Costello and Neville as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator Norris's matter and it will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senators Doyle, Haughey, Costello and Neville may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
