Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 25 Mar 1992

Vol. 131 No. 19

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator O'Keeffe that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to request the health boards to be more enterprise conscious and to introduce an element of self-financing to their affairs.

I also received notice from Senator Ross of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to extend the coal ban to Bray town and its environs.

I also received notice from Senator Jackman of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications to outline her plans for the retention of the Shannon stop-over.

I also received notice from Senator Ó Cuív of the following matter:

The need for the Minister of Health to make resources available to the Western Health Board to enable them to provide geriatric care in homes that are nearer to the families of the patients.

I also received notice from Senator Raftery of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Marine to hold an inquiry into the serious mishap aboard the Brittany Ferries ship on route from Cork to Roscoff on Sunday, 22 March, to ensure that such a situation does not arise on any ferry operating from Irish ports in future.

I also received notice from Senator Haughey of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Marine to report on the measures being taken to tackle the recent problem of oil pollution on the west coast of Ireland.

I also received notice from Senator Honan of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Transism, Transport and Communications to allow for a debate on the Shannon stopover.

I also received notice from Senator Costello of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for transport and Tourism to protect employment in the Inchicore overhaul works.

I regard the matters raised by Senators O'Keeffe, Ross, Jackman, Ó Cuív, Raftery, Haughey and Honan as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator O'Keeffe's matter and it will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senators Ross, Jackman, Ó Cuív, Raftery, Haughey and Honan may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.

I regret that I have had to rule the matter raised by Senator Costello as not suitable for discussion on the Adjournment on the grounds of lack of ministerial responsibility.
