Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 25 Mar 1992

Vol. 131 No. 19

Request Under Standing Order 29.

I have notice from Senator Raftery regarding a motion which he wishes to move under Standing Order 29. I call on Senator Raftery to give notice of the motion before I give my ruling. All that is required is that the Senator give notice of his motion for the Adjournment and he should not elaborate or make a speech.

Under Standing Order 29 I wish to move a motion for the Adjournment of the Seanad on a specific and important matter of public interest requiring urgent consideration, the matter being that Seanad Éireann debate the Britanny ferry mishap and its serious implications.

I have given serious consideration to this matter. I cannot consider it to be a matter contemplated by Standing Order 29 and, therefore, rule it out of order.
