Vol. 132 No. 11

Business of Seanad.

An Leas-Chathaoirleach

I have notice from Senator Haughey that on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Energy to outline current Government policy in relation to the Sellafield nuclear reprocessing plant following the UK Nirex report suggesting that the site for the proposed repository may not be suitable and following the recent discovery of radioactive seaweed on the beaches at Sellafield.

I also received notice from Senator Brendan Ryan of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to provide special funding to Cork Corporation so as to enable them to rehouse the tenants of Blackpool flats which are unhealthy, unsanitary and unsafe.

I also received notice from Senator Cassidy of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Agriculture and Food to investigate the distribution of over 700 acres of land in the Castlepollard area of County Westmeath.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Haughey and Ryan as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment and they will be taken at the conclusion of business.

I regret I have had to rule the matter raised by Senator Cassidy as not suitable for discussion on the Adjournment on the grounds of lack of Ministerial responsibility.
