Wednesday, 3 Jun 1992

Vol. 132 No. 17

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Murphy that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Defence to explain the involvement of military contingents in religious ceremonies.

I also received notice from Senator Costello of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Justice to take urgent action to remedy the conditions and policies that give rise to the appalling profile of an Irish prison depicted by the Mountjoy Visiting Committee in their 1991 report.

I also received notice from Senator Ó Cuív of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to sanction the work to the group water scheme in Beal an Daingin, County Galway.

I also received notice from Senator Ross of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to further extend the urban renewal scheme in Bray, County Wicklow, and to extend the scheme to Wicklow town.

I also received notice from Senator Neville of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Marine to clarify the proposals made by An Taoiseach to develop a deep water transhipment port on the Shannon Estuary; and to make a statement on the suitability of Foynes as a location for the port.

I also received notice from Senator Upton of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Agriculture and Food to outline the measures he is taking to deal with the recent problem caused by the toxic effect of cucumbers; the action he is taking to protect consumers; and the initiatives he is taking to deal with the difficulties this discovery has caused the Irish producers of cucumbers.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Murphy, Costello, Ó Cuív, Ross, Neville and Upton as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senators Murphy and Costello's matters and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senators Ó Cuív, Ross, Neville and Upton may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
