Vol. 133 No. 5

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator O'Keeffe that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need to revise the supplementary welfare allowance as it applies to the elderly, and in particular that it be made applicable to the elderly who are of necessity domiciled in private nursing homes.

I also received notice from Senator Upton of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Justice to review the decision on a holiday visa application from members of a Romanian family whose husband and father is working in Ireland.

I also received notice from Senator Costello of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to ensure that a trained remedial teacher is appointed to North Brunswick Street primary school, Dublin 7, to cater for the substantial number of students who require remedial education.

I also received notice from Senator Ó Cuív of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to sanction the work to the group water scheme in Béal an Daingin, County Galway.

I also received notice from Senator Haughey of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Labour to intervene to ensure that the Teamwork scheme operated at the Irish Wheelchair Association Day Centre, Clontarf, is renewed without delay, given that its termination has caused widespread hardship for the physically disabled.

I regard the matters raised by Senators O'Keeffe, Upton, Costello and Ó Cuív as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senators O'Keeffe and Upton's matters and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senators Costello and Ó Cuív may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.

I regret that I have had to rule the matter raised by Senator Haughey as not suitable for discussion on the Adjournment on the grounds of lack of ministerial responsibility.
