Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 3 Mar 1993

Vol. 135 No. 4

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Daly that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry to outline the impact on farmers' incomes and on agricultural employment arising from the Common Agricultural Policy reforms now taking place and the main effects which the reforms will have on the agricultural industry in Ireland.

I have also received notice from Senator Neville of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to ensure that the community college at Rathkeale, County Limerick, is constructed in 1993.

I have received notice from Senator Ross of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to honour the commitment to provide adequate funding for the Adelaide Hospital and to ensure that the ethos of the Adelaide Hospital is maintained in the proposed new hospital at Tallaght.

I have also received notice from Senator Norris of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to establish an inquiry as requested by Dublin City Council into the circumstances surrounding the demolition of a listed 18th century building in Capel Street, Dublin 1.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Daly, Neville and Ross as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator Daly and Senator Neville's matters and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senator Ross may give notice on another day of the matter he wishes to raise.

I regret I have had to rule that the matter raised by Senator Norris is not suitable for discussion on the Adjournment on the grounds of lack of Ministerial responsibility. It is a matter for the local authority, Dublin Corporation.
