Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 12 May 1993

Vol. 136 No. 3

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Neville that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to ensure that the Stella Maris School in Foynes, County Limerick continues as a second level institution after 1995 in view of the withdrawal of the religous community and the decision not to accept first year students from September 1993.

I also received notice from Senator Kelleher of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to provide a secondary school in the Glanmire/Riverstown area of Cork.

I also received notice from Senator Cosgrave of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Finance to explore the possibility of having St. Helen's House, Booterstown, preserved for the benefit of the State.

I also received notice from Senator Cashin of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Finance to request the British National Monuments Trust to return, as a gift to the people of Ireland, Kanturk Castle; and if the Government would then set about restoring it.

I also received notice from Senator Farrelly of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to provide £50,000 to Meath County Council for the appointment of a design consultant for the new bridge over the River Blackwater in Navan, County Meath, which will alleviate the serious traffic problem which exists.

I also received notice from Senator Norris of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Finance to take steps as a matter of urgency to protect the important archaeological site at Christchurch Place, recently uncovered, which contains an impressive portion of the pre-Norman town wall and 13th century mural tower, which is threatened by commercial development and infill.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Neville, Kelleher, Cosgrave, Cashin, Farrelly and Norris as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator Neville's and Senator Kelleher's matters and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senators Cosgrave, Cashin, Farrelly and Norris may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
