Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 19 May 1993

Vol. 136 No. 5

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Cashin that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Finance to request the British National Monuments Trust to return, as a gift to the people, Kanturk Castle; and if the Government would then set about restoring it.

I also received notice from Senator Reynolds of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to provide the necessary funding for adequate staffing levels at Manorhamilton Hospital, County Leitrim.

I also received notice from Senator Taylor-Quinn of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to make a statement on the proposal to close the casualty department of Ennis General Hospital from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. from June 1993 and on the proposed closure of a ward and a theatre in the hospital.

I also received notice from Senator Ross of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to extend the urban renewal scheme to Wicklow town and to further parts of Bray, County Wicklow.

I also received notice from Senator Burke of the following matter:

The need for the Government to honour a specific commitment given on behalf of the Government to provide quality third level courses, by way of regional college development in Castlebar, County Mayo, and the need for the Minister for Education to authorise such courses in 1993.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Cashin, Reynolds, Taylor-Quinn, Ross and Burke as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senators Cashin's and Reynolds' matters and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senators Taylor-Quinn, Ross and Burke may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
