Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 26 May 1993

Vol. 136 No. 7

Business of Seanad.

At the outset I take this opportunity to welcome Deirdre Lane back to duty and to thank Jodie Blake, who acted in the capacity of Clerk of the Seanad, for her competence and excellent performance.

I have notice from Senator Norris that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Finance to take steps as a matter of urgency to protect the important archaeological site at Christchurch Place, recently uncovered, which contains an impressive portion of the pre-Norman town wall and 13th century mural tower, which is threatened by commercial development and infill.

I also received notice from Senator Neville of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to sanction the appointment of a home/school liaison officer at St. Anne's primary school, Rathkeale, County Limerick, in view of the large number of travelling children attending this school.

I also received notice from Senator Burke of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Marine to give an up-to-date report on his reason for granting a permit for salmon fallowing cages in the Annagh Bay area north of Achill Island.

I also received notice from Senator Ross of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to extend the urban renewal scheme to Wicklow town and to further parts of Bray, County Wicklow.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Norris, Neville, Burke, and Ross as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected the matters of Senator Norris and Senator Neville and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senator Burke and Senator Ross may given notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
