Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 9 Mar 1994

Vol. 139 No. 12

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Taylor-Quinn that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, she proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to grant aid the rewiring and replacement of existing electrical equipment at the Holy Family school hall, Convent of Mercy, Ennis, County Clare, in order to bring it up to proper safety standards.

I have also received notice from Senator Fahey of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Finance to include a drainage programme to alleviate flooding in the south Galway area in the Estimates for 1994.

I have also received notice from Senator McGennis of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to list those post-primary schools and their enrolment numbers in the Republic which have more than one in-quota guidance officer authorised by the Department and/or the vocational education committee, to indicate the provisions she intends making to ensure adequate guidance and counselling personnel in post-primary schools of 900 to 1,100 day pupils considering that the Department's regulations authorise one full time in-quota teacher in a school of 500 plus enrollees.

I regard the matters raised as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator Taylor-Quinn's and Senator Fahey's matters and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senator McGennis may give notice on another day of the matter she wishes to raise.
