Vol. 140 No. 16

Business of Seanad.

An Leas-Chathaoirleach

I have notice from Senator Ormonde that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, she proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to review the present academic qualifications required for the post of library assistant in local authority libraries, particularly the requirement of two grade Cs in the leaving certificate, as an anomaly exists whereby an applicant may have higher qualifications but not the required two Cs and consequently will not be considered for the post.

I have also received notice from Senator Cotter of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to provide funding for a new water source for the people of Monaghan town as the current supply is unsatisfactory as two of the three current sources of supply are from time to time discoloured, carry an unsavoury odour and contain sediment and, as a result, consumers believe the water is unfit for human consumption.

I have also received notice from Senator Rory Kiely of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Social Welfare to consider the introduction of alternative methods of transporting money for social welfare payments.

I regard the matters raised as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment.

I have selected Senator Ormonde's and Senator Cotter's matters and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senator Kiely may give notice on another day of the matter he wishes to raise.
