Vol. 142 No. 11

Business of Seanad.

I have received notice from Senator Henry that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, she proposes to raise the following matter:

In view of the results of a recent survey by ASH, which showed that 90 per cent of attempted purchases of cigarettes by children under 16 were successful, the need for the Minister for Health to review the 1990 regulations governing same.

I have also received notice from Senator Burke of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to provide funding for the sewage treatment plant in Castlebar, County Mayo.

I have also received notice from Senator Dardis of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Defence to provide an assurance that the Army School of Music and the band of the Curragh Command will continue in existence.

I have also received notice from Senator Cosgrave of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to increase funding to the National Safety Council in order that a more intensive water safety publicity campaign can be launched this year.

I have also received notice from Senator Kelly of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Justice to examine the possibility of transferring the Garda responsibility for Croom and adjoining areas — County Limerick — from Askeaton to Limerick city.

I have also received notice from Senator Rory Kiely of the following matter:

To ask the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will make representations on behalf of a person (details supplied) in County Limerick who has been refused a visa to the United States.

I regard the matters raised as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator Henry's and Senator Burke's matters and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. I regret that I had to rule the matter raised by Senator Rory Kiely out of order due to lack of ministerial responsibility. The other Senators may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
