Vol. 144 No. 14

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Wall that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to amend the regulations governing the essential repairs grant.

I have received notice from Senator Daly of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Marine to outline the action he proposes to take to deal with the danger to the community and the threat to the environment arising from the dumping of toxic materials, ammunition, mustard and other gases at dump sites off the Irish coastline.

I have received notice from Senator Finneran of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to provide transport for two deaf boys in County Roscommon to the deaf unit at the convent primary school in Ballymahon, County Longford.

I have received notice from Senator Henry of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Justice to outline her plans for the placement of female persons sentenced to detention in view of the postponement of the building of the new women's prison.

I have received notice from Senator Kelly of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to give senior training centre status to the Riverside Training Centre at Rathkeale, County Limerick.

I have received notice from Senator Maloney of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications to up-grade the telephone system in the Culdaff and Inishowen areas of County Donegal.

I have received notice from Senator McGennis of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to make a statement on the on-going dispute regarding staff shortages in the housing welfare section of Dublin Corporation.

I regard the matters raised as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator Wall's and Senator Daly's matters and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. I regret that I had to rule the matters raised by Senator Maloney and Senator McGennis as not suitable for discussion on the Adjournment on the grounds of lack of ministerial responsibility. The other Senators may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
