Vol. 145 No. 16

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator McGennis that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, she proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to acquire the designated site in Blanchardstown for a regional technical college, in view of the Higher Education Authority recommendation that Blanchardstown be considered for a regional technical college and also the fact that the option on the site expires in June 1996.

I have also received notice from Senator Farrelly of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Justice to consider the possibility of increasing the number of permanent gardaí in the Meath coastal area.

I have also received notice from Senator Cotter of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to examine the possibility of increasing the grant aided financial assistance which is made available to post-graduate students involved in research programmes in the various higher education colleges and universities.

I have also received notice from Senator O'Sullivan of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to reassess the means testing for disabled person's maintenance allowance payments, particularly where the spouse or partner is employed on a community employment scheme.

I have also received notice from Senator Neville of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Social Welfare to change the eligibility criteria for payment of unemployment benefit and unemployment assistance to non-regular dockers in Foynes Harbour, County Limerick.

I regard the matters raised as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senators McGennis's and Farrellys' matters and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. The other Senators may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
