Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 5 Jun 1996

Vol. 147 No. 12

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Hayes that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to outline her views concerning the operation of a "league table" of schools similar to that which exists in Britain.

I have also received notice from Senator Enright of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to review the regulations under the sports capital programme whereby swimming pools are specifically excluded under section 1.1 of the sports capital programme, in view of the fact that swimming pools are most important for recreation; and if she will consider funding for new pools and maintenance of existing pools under this scheme.

I have also received notice from Senator Neville of the following matter:

The need for the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs to make representations to the British Home Secretary to have an early transfer to the Republic of Padraic Mac Fhloinn, a republican prisoner at Full Sutton Prison, York, and to ensure that he receives appropriate treatment for his medical condition until he is repatriated.

I have also received notice from Senator Cosgrave of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Enterprise and Employment to outline his attitude to the recent Consumer Association of Ireland survey into the country's 13 big mortgage lenders.

I regard the matters raised by the Senators as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator Hayes' and Senator Enright's matters and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. The other Senators may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
