Seanad Éireann debate -
Friday, 20 Dec 1996

Vol. 149 No. 17

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Hayes that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs to give an update on the resolution passed at a recent meeting of the Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs which called on the Irish Government to call upon the European Union and the United Nations to obtain guarantees for the safe return of Belen Toras and Raul Ramos to Columbia.

I have also received notice from Senator Finneran of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to provide the necessary funding to the Irish Wheelchair Association for its proposed national respite and holiday centre at Donamon, County Roscommon.

I have received notice from Senator Daly of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to approve a grant for the provision of facilities for victims of violence in Ennis in accordance with the plans of Clare Haven House Project.

I regard the matters raised as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator Hayes's and Senator Finneran's matters and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senator Daly may give notice on another day of the matter he wishes to raise.

I wish all Members a happy and peaceful Christmas. I thank the staff in the Seanad Office, the staff of the House, ushers, stenographers, etc., and the members of the press for dutifully turning up on all sitting days and assisting us in every way possible. I wish each Member a happy and peaceful Christmas.
