Wednesday, 5 Mar 1997

Vol. 150 No. 7

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator O'Toole that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Justice, in light of the identification by the media of the nine Liberian refugees who were allowed ashore on Tuesday, 25 February 1997, to ensure all personnel working in the media in Ireland will not repeat such a life threatening exercise.

I have also received notice from Senator McGennis of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry to immediately sign the necessary Commencement Order for the Control of Horses Act, 1996; complete and publish the regulations in regard to the identification of horses; provide the necessary funding for local authorities to implement these measures and finalise agreement on the provision of funding to support the proposed equine centre for Cherry Orchard, Dublin 10, and remove the barriers to the commencement of this project.

I have also received notice from Senator Finneran of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to sanction and provide the necessary funds for the construction of a new national school at Clontuskert, County Roscommon.

I have received notice from Senator Mullooly of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to provide immediate sanction for the board of management of Lanesboro community college, Lanesboro, County Longford, to advertise the proposed school extension for tender so that work on the project can commence in early summer 1997.

I have also received notice from Senator Daly of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to sanction the new school project for Gaelscoil Mhichil Ciosog, Ennis, County Clare.

I have also received notice from Senator Ross of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to fulfil her contract with the Dublin School of English and ensure payment of the £36,362 outstanding.

I regard the matters raised by the Senators as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected the matters raised by Senator O'Toole and Senator McGennis and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. The other Senators may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
